Rose Wintergreen 'Take Me To The Place'
Rose Wintergreen is an enigmatic, softly-spoken powerhouse of a woman – a songstress whose unsettling directness and incredibly moving stories are fuelled by a complicated personal history, a fierce set of principles and a strong empathy for the suffering of others.
Her debut EP ‘Warm Chocolate Heart’, was produced by ARIA Award-winning legend Magoo and inspired by the sense of wellbeing generated by timely indulgence in the ultimate comfort food, warm chocolate mudcake. The metaphor sits well with her music, with soothing melodies and cathartic lyrics providing warmth and character to her minimalist, intimate arrangements.
Musically, the record has common ground with Suzanne Vega’s original ‘Tom’s Diner’, with sparse, plucked guitar lines, driven by vocal melody and conversational, train-of-thought monologues. Simple themes are peppered with multi-instrumental surprises, and augmented by harmonies that seem to emphasise the songs’ spaciousness.
Wintergreen’s songs are honest and deeply personal odes to survival and the discovery of unexpected strength – confronting, yet positive, and punctuated with quirky twists that testify to her determination, passion and sense of humour.
