SOLKYRI join BRR and

Sydney trio SOLKYRI have announced
they have joined independent label Bird's Robe Records

The band's debut EP 'No House' was released in early

post-rock heavyweights including sleepmakeswaves and
Laura as well as launching their record to a packed
headline show at Sydney's Lansdowne Hotel.
To celebrate the announcement, Solkyri will hit the road

DUMBSAINT JOIN BRR AND ANNOUNCE
NEW SINGLE + LAUNCH
With their debut album due for
release in April, Sydney-based instrumental rock trio
Dumbsaint are celebrating with the release of their
first single, the soaring 7-minute epic, 'Don't Forget
To Bring Down The Sky'. From lush, shoe-gazing ambience
to walls of technical and aggressive distortion, an
underlying feeling of tension is present throughout;
pushing and pulling with each instrumental dip and
crescendo.
DFTBDTS will be released as a free download on Tuesday
February 14th through Bird's Robe Records, alongside the
release of a short-film projection used to accompany the
track live.
Friday February 17th will see the band launch their
single at the Gaelic Theatre in Surry Hills supporting
post-rock friends, sleepmakeswaves, as part of their
national tour. Also joining them will be local
favourites, Solkyri and Batterie. Tickets are available
from
www.moshtix.com.au.
Drawing parallels to artists such
as ISIS, Jakob, Toe, Russian Circles and Tool, DFTBDTS
showcases Dumbsaint at the height of their musical and
personal evolution, exploring their turbulent history
through a cathartic wash of dynamics and emotion. The
track not only reinforces the command the band have over
their instruments, but the maturity of their
communication as a songwriting unit; delivering a
layered sound - without words - that is haunting,
challenging and memorable.
November 2011 saw the band enter Studios 301 with
Producer Tim Carr (Ernest Ellis, Matt Corby, Totally
Unicorn, Serious Beak), to bookend the last 4 years of
what up until now, has only been accessible by a live
audience.
"Dumbsaint, a monster of a sonic and visual force.
This three piece managed to transcend genres through
simple riffs, a crushing rhythm section courtesy of Nick
Andrews on drums and James Thomas on bass, interlaced
with technical fret work from Ron Prince to create an
ambience designed to draw in the viewer before blasting
them off their feet. Original, synced visuals
accompanying each track brought a new dimension to their
show and transfixing the audience to the sound-scape
that is Dumbsaint" - Brendan Delavere, September 2
2011, Bald Faced Stag live review.

SERIOUS BEAK ANNOUNCE
AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES
Prog rockers Serious Beak have dropped their excellent
debut album "Huxwhukw".
"Huxwhukw" is an eccentric
amalgamation of mind-melting, toe-tapping, psychedelic,
progressive and poly-rhythmic discordant music, sure to
please fans of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Botch, The Mars
Volta and King Crimson.

VAMPILLIA RELEASE RULE THE
WORLD/DEATHTINY LAND IN AUSTRALIA
Japanese avant-garde noise
merchants VAMPILLIA have released their epic RULE THE
WORLD/DEATHTINY album in Australia.
Any who saw them during their
infamous sold out Australian tour in 2009/10 will know
that the band defy classification. Their chaotic, yet
tender, live shows are reflected in varying degrees on
their recordings. 'Rule The World' is the follow-up to
their successful 2009 EP Sppears, which garnered quite a
bit of attention on the back of THIS film clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vMtHrrMv3I
The album is an ambitious 24
tracks, travelling at ridiculous pace through opera,
metal, folk, a capella and drone.
Here's the low-down from web
review site 'How to Rock Out':
Vampillia is a self-described
‘brutal orchestra’ comprised of 11 quite-possibly-insane
musicians from Osaka, Japan, and this album is.
honestly, I have no idea what it is. But I like it. I
like it a lot. The bulk of the album consists of
orchestral compositions, some of which come and go with
nothing but beauty exposed, some of which explode into
spasms of death-metal grunting, operatic exhalations,
and furious blastbeats. It’s a bit like John Zorn’s
Naked City, Mr. Bungle, and Solefald-all playing at the
same time-or a gloriously twisted soundtrack to a film
co-directed by Tim Burton and Quentin Tanantino. I’ve
never heard anything quite like Vampillia before, but I
can’t seem to get enough of this undeniably captivating
album. I’d love to see them pull this off live-that
would be a show for the ages!
RULE THE WORLD is available now

RUINS ALONE DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE
TATSUYA YOSHIDA has released his
debut album under the moniker 'RUINS ALONE.' Following
a successful solo tour of Australia in June, Yoshida has
finally committed his outrageously complex and
entertaining live set to record.
Best known as one half of seminal
experimental duo RUINS and drummer for ZENI GEVA and
VAMPILLIA amongst others, Yoshida is universally
acknowledged as the 'undisputed master drummer of the
Japanese underground.'
RUINS ALONE is out now through
Bird's Robe Records
http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/ruins-alone
- all orders come with a bonus BRR
release...
SQUAT CLUB RELEASE 'CORVUS'
Prog supergroup SQUAT CLUB have
finished remixing and remastering their debut album
CORVUS, out now through Bird's Robe Records.
One of the most hotly-anticipated
local releases for some time now, this re-release has
been a long while coming. This is what we had to say
about the album in our year-end list for 2010:
Better to burn out than to fade
away? The boys in Squat Club thought so. Officially
together for only 8 short months before disbanding, this
group felt truly momentous. As anyone who had the
opportunity to see them live would agree, it seemed
incredibly important that these four gentlemen existed
at just the right time to collaborate together and it’s
a damn shame they couldn’t have wowed more of the world
in doing so. Luckily, within this period of time, they
recorded a spectacular full length album. Equal parts
Secret Chiefs 3, Can, Battles and King Crimson, their
songs are sometimes heinously complex - yet achieve a
level of melodicism rare in most numbers-and-effects
focussed groups. In two words: very special.
For fans of Isis, Meshuggah,
Battles, King Crimson and Periphery.
CORVUS is available from
http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/corvus
PANZER QUEEN RELEASE 'WHEN ALL
OUR FATHERS WORSHIPED STOCK AND STONE'
The highly anticipated second EP
from post rock royalty PANZER QUEEN is here...
When All Our Fathers Worshiped Stock and Stone is out
now
http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/when-all-our-fathers-worshiped-stock-and-stone
The captivating single 'Into The
Golden Ocean' has been spun hundreds of times on
national radio including triple j and is soon to feature
in...
The EP is the band's finest and most polished work to
date, with shimmering production and lilting melodic
frames dancing across the band's lithe instrumental
work.
For fans of Explosions in the Sky, the Appleseed Cast,
the Middle East and Mono.
MISH 'THE ENTRANCE' ALBUM
RELEASE
Prog-metallers MISH have
released their long-awaited debut album THE ENTRANCE.
The band recorded with Clayton
Segelov at The Brain Studios and have put their all into
a heavy and progressive-minded release.
For fans of Isis, Tool, Jakob,
Opeth, Meshuggah and Russian Circles.

LANDER CONFIGURATIONS RELEASE
"OF SMOKE AND FIRE"
LANDER CONFIGURATIONS successfully
launched their new record in Sydney on Friday December
2nd, alongside FOURTEEN NIGHTS AT SEA, HIRA HIRA
and SOLKYRI at the Lansdowne Hotel.
The Newcastle-based band have spent close to 5 years
perfecting their album, which promises to add to an
already-phenomenal year for Australian post-rock and
prog releases.
Their understated production and
songcraft stands out amongst 2011 releases and is
available now from

Cascade is ripping out
the meanest original
tracks ever written
since days gone by, when
Slash and Axel welded
some hard, unforgettable
tunes. These guys are
gunna grow on you within
the first 2 minutes of
any performance, and you
will be back again and
again to taste the soul
shattering sounds
descending upon you like
a raging CASCADE! |
